Abstract

In the era of globalization, indigenous communities face mounting challenges in maintaining their cultural identity due to the influence of homogenized global culture. However, digital technology has emerged as a powerful tool to counteract cultural erosion and promote the preservation of local wisdom. This paper explores the role of digital platforms—such as social media, websites, virtual reality, and digital archives—in empowering indigenous groups to document, share, and revitalize their traditions, languages, rituals, and arts. Through case studies from various regions, the study highlights how communities leverage technology not only to preserve their heritage but also to assert cultural sovereignty, reach broader audiences, and foster intergenerational knowledge transfer. Despite the benefits, the paper also addresses challenges including digital inequality, data ownership, and the risk of cultural commodification. Ultimately, digital technology, when applied with cultural sensitivity and community participation, offers new pathways for indigenous resilience in the face of globalization.
