Critical Review of Social Ritual Changes in the Lampung Traditional Community

This study presents a critical review of the transformation of social rituals within the Lampung traditional community, focusing on the dynamic interplay between cultural preservation and modernization. Drawing from anthropological and sociological perspectives, it analyzes how rituals such as ngiwang, begawi, and traditional ceremonies have undergone shifts in meaning, practice, and participation due to factors like urbanization, education, religious reinterpretation, and digital media influence. The review identifies patterns of ritual adaptation, the tension between adat and contemporary values, and the emergence of hybrid cultural expressions. It also discusses the role of traditional leaders and local institutions in navigating these changes while maintaining communal identity. This paper contributes to the discourse on cultural resilience and transformation in indigenous societies facing the pressures of global change.
